Harrogate Court Visit - Christmas addition - Intergenerational Day

05/12/24

The School Council organised a wonderful event in collaboration with Harrogate Court, exploring how Christmas traditions have evolved over the years for the residents.

The day included a fun-filled Christmas quiz, where everyone joined in enthusiastically, and we loved hearing heartwarming stories about both old and new Christmas traditions.

To wrap up the event, we created Christmas cards to exchange with the residents, filled with heartfelt messages that brought smiles to everyone!

The day ended on a magical note with a surprise visit from a special guest, making the experience even more memorable!

Our School Council has been actively developing their communication skills through engaging in thoughtful debates. Recently, they participated in a lively discussion focused on enhancing pupil voice within the school and strengthening community engagement. The debate encouraged our council members to express their ideas confidently, listen to others' perspectives, and work collaboratively to propose innovative solutions. This activity not only sharpened their debating skills but also highlighted their commitment to creating a more inclusive and participatory environment for everyone. The School Council continues to lead by example, ensuring that every voice in our school and community is heard and valued. They can't wait to share their ideas with our school in the coming weeks.

Today our school council had their first meeting to discuss issues, concerns and new ideas for our school!

We looked at different ways we could get the voice of both pupils and staff in school to make positive changes...

FOOD AWARE

Our School Council and Mini Vinnies have started the Autumn Term with a 'Giving Project' for the Harvest season.

The children carried out lots of research about local food banks.

Decided on the food bank they wanted to donate to, through regular meetings and discussion.

Created letters and sent these on to local Community Officers and Food Aware teams.

Used ART and CRAFT skills to create posters to promote their charitable project.

Demonstrated their wonderful COMPUTING skills and created a power point presentation for our whole school assembly.

Presented an assembly to all of our KS1 and KS2 children in school about what food banks are and why they are so important.

Everyone at St Alban's are very PROUD of their hard work and hope that the food donations will help others in our local community!

Our School Council and Mini Vinnies even made it to...

Doncaster Radio!

This charitable event will help lots of local families in our community.

Thank you to everyone who donated what a HUGE success.

We are all excited to engage in our next meeting to decide what to do next........

Spring Term

Our School Council and Mini Vinnies decided they wanted to learn more about our local community and spend time with different generations to see what new things they could learn and share to make our community a better place.

Through research and speaking to local residents a INTERGENERATIONAL day was organised at Harrogate Court Denaby Main.

The children and residents exchanged lots of knowledge and different experiences through games, discussions and activities!

This day was dedicated to our community and learning how we can have a greater understanding of different generations when we come together.

School Council - Supporting Safer Parking

We want to keep our community and children safe! Dangerous parking is an issue we want to address. Parking on zig-zag lines or the pedestrian crossing area can cause visibility issues to drivers and people walking the pavements.

Parking near our school entrance also causes access problems not only for the community but also for emergency services. We addressed this ahead on-  supported by South Yorkshire Transport and Community Officers!
