Outdoor and active learning
At St Alban's we are very fortunate to have superb grounds that we can explore, enjoy, pray and be active in! We have our own Forest School at the top of the field under the canopy of our tall trees and a wet garden where plants and animals that enjoy a boggy habitat are starting to thrive! We have a new outdoor classroom with log seats and benches where we can engage in any lesson outdoors whilst remaining dry under our sail. We can easily explore nature around us as well as catch up on what our visiting wildlife have been doing during the night on our night camera!
Our playground is also a great place to continue our exciting outdoor and active learning, whether that is re-enacting the Battle of Hastings or holding a climate change protest!
Active learning at St. Alban's continues inside too! We love exploring our new world map and timeline and have already learnt so much from them as well as link the knowledge we already have.
To keep active, we have an active mile track on which we try and beat our personal bests and enjoy a race or a friendly jog with friends as well as a trim trail, tyre park, outdoor gym equipment and mini golf course to keep us busy. Our bike and scooter park allows us to ride to school, store our wheels safely and then ride back home at the end of the day.
Our break times are led by our trained Y6 and Y3 Playleaders who encourage all children to join in a variety of games and activities such as having a work out on the outdoor gym equipment or tackling the trim trail! Our children also lead football, basketball and athletics skills and games sessions every lunchtime, come rain or shine!!! But if they fancy a quiet or relaxing break, the children can find one of the many seating areas on the playground.
