Pupil and Sports Premium

Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so they can support their disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

The government believes that the pupil premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for FSM and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

In most cases, the pupil premium is paid direct to schools, allocated to them for every pupil who receives free school meals. Schools decide how to use the funding as they are best placed to assess what additional provision their pupils need.

St Alban’s serves a community that lies in the top 10% of the country for deprivation; the pupil premium funding is used to make a real difference for our most vulnerable children. The allocation of funds is carefully considered to make the greatest impact possible to support the developing needs of our children and help them to make the best progress they can. The pupil premium funding supports our bespoke provision and curriculum in offering a high class learning experience, which is carefully balanced to ensure we provide as many opportunities as possible to narrow any gaps in learning, secure high standards and improved attainment and outcomes for children, including the most vulnerable.

Our commitment to nurturing the needs of the whole child are rooted in the Gospel Values shared in St Alban's; we believe everyone deserves respect and must be valued for the person they are regardless of culture or belief in an atmosphere of tolerance.

Sports Premium Funding

In 2013 the Department for Education (DfE) introduced The Sports Premium Grant for primary schools. Since that time each year every primary school has received this funding into its budget to enable them to resource the P.E. curriculum and improve outcomes for pupils within their school.

We provide for children throughout school a range of different and varied sporting activities and opportunities; our curriculum and extended schools offer as well as our active playtimes are designed to introduce them to a varied mix of sports and activities.
