At St. Alban’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery, children begin to develop their geographical awareness in Nursery and Reception by exploring the natural world around them, making observations about their local area, making comparisons between their life and life in other countries and drawing information on simple maps. Children then build on this knowledge in KS1 and KS2 with a focus on the four key areas of the National Curriculum:
locational knowledge
place knowledge
human and physical geography
geographical skills and fieldwork
Geography is taught both discretely and through an adventure in learning approach which enables children to produce a final product that encompasses their learning across that topic.
